| Human makes mistakes and it is alright to avoid those mistakes if we
know what are those and prepare ourselves against making it again.
So, what are those prospecting mistakes that new network marketers like
to make? The following are just some of the common mistakes that
are often make by new network marketeers.
1. Selling - Keep in mind during the prospecting your job is to sort, not to sell. Not everyone is right for your business. If you sense that they are not a good prospect politely let them go. Remember you are the final decision as to whom you work with in your network marketing business. Also keep in mind you are there to solve their problem or pain not to give them a bunch of hype about your marketing business. It is not about you, it is all about them. 2. Not Having a Script - It is essential you have a script and you have your prospecting script memorized. Without a script the prospect will take control of the conversation leaving you scrambling for words making you look less professional. Try to stick to your script as much as possible if they ask you a question simply say "That's a great question" briefly answer their question and get back to the script or throw a question at them to get control back of the conversation. 3. Not Being Confident - If you sound uneasy, nervous or unsure of yourself your prospect will hear that in your voice and will take control of the conversation and start to walk all over you. Practice your script until you sound smooth, confident and come across as a leader. Remember people will follow leaders and experts. 4. Sounding Like a Telemarketer - Even though you have a script, do not read it like most telemarketers. You need to sound friendly and use the same tone of voice that you would as if you were chatting to a friend. Practice on friends or family or better yet record yourself so you hear exactly what you sound like. Do a recording each week and you will start to hear a vast improvement in your voice as you become more skilled at prospecting. 5. Not Getting a Commitment - Make sure that you let your prospect know that you are busy helping other people and you need their word and commitment that they will go to your presentation call or wherever you are sending them. This will not only position you as a leader and an expert but it will also help eliminate those people that are not serious and are just going to waste your time. 6. Being Too Strong or Too Soft - You really want your prospect to go to your presentation call right away or at least the same day. Don't be too strong and let them go if they can't but do your best to get them booked within 24 hours. Any longer than that and it will substantially decrease the chances that they will go to your presentation call. 7. Qualifying Too Much or Not Enough - If you are just starting out you do not want to over qualify. You want as many people as you can get to your presentation call and if nothing else it may give you more chances at closing. Practicing on a live close is even better than role-playing with your downline or upline. Once you have gained a better skill set you want to really start to qualify so nobody wastes any of your time. In conclusion if you are trying to grow a network marketing business it is crucial you have a prospecting script that you memorize, practice that script until you are smooth and confident when using the script. Your prospecting script is your one & only chance to make a good first impression.
